In this article, we’ll show you how an ordinary Khrushchev-era kitchen was completely transformed by a family that decided to renovate it. With a few small changes, smart use of space, and a cozy Scandinavian style, the kitchen became not only stylish but also incredibly functional.
The original layout of the apartment was far from ideal. It had a small combined bathroom and a cramped corridor that led to the kitchen. The family decided to change things up by moving the kitchen entrance from the living room, which allowed them to enlarge the bathroom and make space for a fridge and washing machine.
Here’s what was done:
1. The walls and ceiling were leveled. The walls were plastered, covered with fiberglass cloth, and then painted white. The ceiling was fitted with a matte stretch finish and three light sources: two spotlights above the work area and one lamp above the dining area.
2. The old wiring was replaced with new, modern wiring.
3. For the flooring, a 14mm thick parquet board was installed throughout the apartment, including in the kitchen.
4. The kitchen was custom-ordered without a worktop, which was made separately along with the window sill.
5. The kitchen walls were tiled, with tiles that perfectly matched the Scandinavian style.
6. Thanks to the redesign, a niche was created for the refrigerator, making it fit seamlessly into the space without overcrowding the room.
The result:
Even though the family has only recently moved in and the kitchen is still in the process of being fully organized, the transformation is impressive. The cozy atmosphere, smart layout, and stylish design make this kitchen the perfect place for family gatherings and intimate conversations.
