When 73-year-old Richard Gere planned a seaside vacation with his wife, Alejandra Silva, and their children, he could never have predicted how it would end.
The trip ended up putting Gere in the hospital, according to express.co.uk.
Gere had planned this getaway in Mexico as a special way to celebrate Alejandraās birthday.
Alejandra, who is over 30 years younger than Gere, turned 40 this year.
Before they left, Richard had a slight cough, but he didnāt pay much attention to it.
However, once they arrived at their destination, his condition started to worsen. He began having severe coughing fits, and when his temperature spiked, Alejandra insisted they go to the hospital.
At the hospital, doctors quickly diagnosed Gere with pneumonia, which can be a serious condition at any age but especially so for someone over 70.
Luckily, they caught it in time, and with strong antibiotics, Gereās condition improved. According to Alejandra, he is now on the mend.
But Gereās illness wasnāt the only setback on this trip. It seems his illness was contagious, as Alejandra and their children also became sick afterward.
Fortunately, both Alejandra and the children only had mild cases.
