Vera Wang, 77, Shows Her Completely Makeup-Free Face in Rare Bed Selfie

Vera Wang has surprised her followers with an unusually private glimpse of herself. The 77-year-old designer shared a selfie on Saturday showing her lying between the pillows with her long hair loose, apparently without makeup or retouching.

There was nothing glamorous behind the bedroom appearance, however. Wang was feeling under the weather and dealing with repeated sneezing, leaving her spending the day in bed. “I’m stuck in bed and sneezing a lot….. so I’m staying here …..my real office!” she wrote alongside the picture.

It is a dramatically different image from the polished Vera people normally see. Public appearances usually find the fashion designer dressed for maximum impact, with carefully styled hair, glamorous outfits and a red-carpet-ready finish.

Her 77th birthday celebration in June offered a perfect example. Wang stunned with a sleek, shoulder-length blonde bob parted down the middle, replacing the long dark hair strongly associated with her look. She paired the transformation with a fitted, sleeveless white halter dress while celebrating with friends at what appeared to be an upscale restaurant. Photos captured her blowing out candles on a cake marked “77” as sparklers burned nearby.

The blonde transformation had already begun attracting attention at the Met Gala in May, where Wang appeared with platinum hair and an asymmetrical black gown. Her ability to maintain such a youthful appearance has repeatedly become a fascination of its own.

Wang has previously described work as her main “magic elixir.” She has also credited roughly nine hours of sleep and a vodka cocktail as parts of her lifestyle. Her approach to food is hardly strict either: she has spoken about periods of ordering McDonald’s every day and enjoying vanilla cream-filled donuts as well as pink-frosted ones covered in sprinkles.

Although the attention surrounding her age is flattering, Wang has stressed that looking younger was never something she deliberately set out to achieve. “I’m very flattered that people think I’ve aged well, but that was never my goal,” she explained. At the same time, she hopes fascination with her appearance never overshadows the work that has defined her career.
