In the far south of Thailand’s Koh Chang island, hidden deep in the jungle, there’s something very unexpected. Standing among the trees is a massive seven-deck ocean liner that still draws curious visitors today.
Many years ago, this ship—called The Galaxy—was brought to the shore of Koh Chang. A special canal was dug to move it onto land. Once there, it was turned into a luxury hotel. Some people say the ship now sits on a concrete platform to keep it stable, although not everyone agrees on that detail.
For a while, the hotel welcomed guests and was part of a trend seen on some tropical islands, where ships are turned into unique places to stay. Smaller ship-hotels still exist nearby, but The Galaxy is now completely abandoned. It’s located at the end of a quiet road and no longer in use.
Locals and tourists believe the ship carries a strange and heavy energy. Some who visit say they feel overwhelmed by sadness or anxiety. And during the time it was still operating as a hotel, there were even reports of several suicides, which added to its dark reputation.
Today, the ship rests in the Bang Bao Bay area. Visitors can still get close to it, and there’s even a small checkpoint nearby, usually watched by a sleepy guard.
While it’s not advised to go inside the ship, some tourists still do. What they find is eerie—many of the items inside have been left untouched, as if time simply stopped. This only adds to the mysterious atmosphere that surrounds The Galaxy.
