Celine Dion, who grew up in a big family with 13 siblings, faced profound loss with the passing of one sibling soon after losing her husband, René Angélil. In December 2022, Celine received a diagnosis of Stiff-Person Syndrome, a rare neurological condition.
She has a particularly strong bond with her sister, Claudette Dion, who has been a constant source of support and frequently updates her on family news. Celine is the daughter of butcher Adhémar Dion and television personality Thérèse Dion.
Though her father was initially hesitant about having children, Celine grew up in a lively family of 13 siblings, including Claudette, Paul, Liette, Michel, Linda, Daniel, Manon, Denise, Louise, Jacques, Ghislaine, Clément, and Pauline.
Her older siblings, especially her brothers, introduced her to the world of music and show business. Michelle, one of her sisters, even played in a rock ‘n’ roll band and took Celine to concerts, helping to spark her passion for performing.
Celine has always acknowledged the hard work and dedication of her siblings, many of whom also pursued music. She once shared that if she succeeded in her career, it would be as much for her siblings as it would be for herself.
Tragically, Celine faced the loss of her brother, Daniel, who battled brain, throat, and tongue cancer. His passing occurred just two days after her husband, René Angélil, lost his fight with lung cancer at the age of 73.
At the time of Daniel’s death, an insider shared that Celine was incredibly close to each of her siblings, and their loss affected her profoundly. She expressed that she found some comfort in believing that “René escorted my brother,” as both losses came so closely together.
Celine’s sister Claudette, an actress, is one of her closest confidants. Both sisters share a passion for music and motherhood, and they have always supported each other. When Claudette encountered financial difficulties following her divorce, Celine offered her support and stepped in to assist her sister.
