Even old, worn-out furniture can look brand new with a little creativity and a fresh makeover. Here’s how you can turn a regular table into a unique piece that stands out in your home.
What you’ll need for the makeover:
Start with the table itself. You can use one you already have, find one at a garage sale, or pick one up from a flea market. For the restoration, you’ll need quick-drying glue (universal glue works best), a large vinyl tablecloth with a bold and colorful design (choose a pattern that suits your taste), white or beige paint, scissors, a tape measure, a pencil, and a ruler.
Tip! If you don’t have a tablecloth, other materials work too, like a colorful oilcloth, a thick shower curtain, or fabric. If using fabric, you’ll need special decoupage glue to work with it.
The color and pattern of the material can be anything you like. It doesn’t have to be a busy floral print. You could opt for Chinese designs, ethnic patterns, animal or plant motifs, or even geometric shapes.
The transformation process:
First, paint the table on all sides and let it dry completely. Then, measure the table with the tape measure and mark the tablecloth to match the size of each side of the table. Cut the pieces out, leaving a little extra if you want to cover the edges.
Next, glue the pieces onto the table, making sure to cover each side with glue. Use a roller or a soft, wide tool to smooth out any air bubbles and remove any excess glue. Let it all dry, and that’s it!
With just a few simple materials and a little effort, your table will have a fresh, stylish look.
