That old fridge you’re dragging to the dump? 🫢 Stop right there! 😱🛠 My neighbor turned his into a game-changing thing for his garden—and now I want one too! 🔥 Check out the transformation in the article below! 👇
If you have an old refrigerator sitting around that no longer works and you are thinking of getting rid of it, don’t be in a hurry to throw it away. Instead of taking it to the dump or selling it for a small amount, you can turn it into something very useful for your summer cottage or garden. That’s exactly what I did after seeing my neighbor’s idea. Maybe you’ll want to try it too.
My neighbor is good with his hands and always finds ways to give old things a second life. He managed to turn his broken refrigerator into a practical homemade device. When I saw what he had created, I realized I needed to do the same. I would never have thought an old fridge could be so handy.
The work started with clearing everything out. I removed all the shelves, trays, and other parts inside, leaving just the shell and the door. The freezer section was also taken out, and I cut a hole to install a pipe so air could flow through the unit freely.
I decided not to get rid of the door. Instead, I made several openings and inserted glass into them, fixing it tightly. This allowed sunlight to pass through while keeping the inside warm. For extra insulation, I added a layer of foam. I heated it up slightly and pressed it firmly against the surface so it fit snugly.
The final step was to cover all the vents and holes with metal mesh. This allowed air to circulate inside while keeping insects out.
The result was a homemade solar dryer for fruits, vegetables, fish, or meat. Simple, practical, and made entirely from an old fridge that would have otherwise gone to waste. What was once junk is now something I use regularly. If you have an old refrigerator standing around, maybe it’s worth giving it a second life. It could become an irreplaceable helper at your cottage.
