Many people enjoy adding marshmallows to hot drinks like cocoa. While store-bought options are available, their quality can be questionable. That’s why making them at home is a great idea.

The process is not too complicated and can even be quite fun.

The ingredients needed:

Water – 220 ml
Sugar – 250 g
Instant gelatin – 30 g
Lemon juice – 15 ml
A little oil
A mixture of 2 tbsp of starch and powdered sugar for dusting

Bloom the gelatin in 120 ml of cold water and set it aside. In a sturdy pot or saucepan, combine the rest of the water, sugar, and lemon juice.

Grease a mold (a silicone mold around 20×20 cm works best) with a little oil. Place the saucepan over low heat, stirring continuously, and let it cook for about 7-8 minutes.

Take the syrup off the heat and let it cool for about 5 minutes. Stir in the bloomed gelatin until it dissolves completely. Then, using a mixer, start at a low speed and gradually increase to higher speeds.

Continue beating the mixture until it thickens and develops a stretchy texture. Quickly pour half of the mixture into the prepared mold.

For a colorful variation, mix food coloring into the remaining half, whisk a little more, then pour it into the mold. Smooth the surface and leave it at room temperature for about two hours to set.

Once set, transfer it to the refrigerator for another two hours. To remove the marshmallow easily, use an oiled spatula.

Before serving, mix together starch and powdered sugar. in equal parts and roll the marshmallow pieces in the mixture.
