It was just another Monday Zoom meeting. Fifteen little boxes, half of them muted, half of them pretending to care. My husband had just been promoted and was giving his first big client presentation from home. He looked sharp. Confident.
Then… it happened.
Right in the middle of the call, his wife’s voice came booming from the kitchen.
— “Are you done sucking up to those idiots yet? Or should I send more coffee for your ‘genius’ ideas?”
The entire call froze. My husband didn’t react in time. His mic was still on.
The client blinked. The manager coughed. One guy accidentally laughed.
Then came the second bombshell:
— “I still can’t believe they actually hired you after what you said about your boss. Hope he never hears that voicemail!”
By the time he found the mute button, the damage was done.
That afternoon, he got a call from HR. Then from his boss. Then from the client. The voicemail in question? Oh yeah, they asked to hear it — just to “clarify.”
By Friday, he was “exploring new opportunities.”
