As I stood in front of the door to my daughter’s fiancé’s house, my heart was full of worry. I just couldn’t understand how she could think about marrying someone so much older than her. I had to talk to him. I had to convince him to step back—for her own good.
Just as I lifted my hand to knock, I heard a voice coming from inside. I paused and leaned in closer.
“…yes, darling, everything is going according to plan,” the man said. It was her fiancé.
A cold feeling washed over me. What plan was he talking about? And why did he sound so… dark?
