His hands started shaking as he opened it.
And what was written inside made him look up immediately—
but the girl was already gone.
PART 2
The man stood there for a long moment, staring at the paper.
Only three words were written.
“Don’t trust him.”
His breath caught.
“What…?” he whispered.
He looked toward the alley where the girl had disappeared.
And then something clicked.
He pulled out his phone quickly. Scrolled. Stopped.
A news article.
A face.
Same man from earlier meetings. Someone he had recently trusted with business talks.
His stomach dropped.
The warning wasn’t random.
He didn’t hesitate anymore.
He ran.
Straight toward the alley.
“Hey!” he shouted. “Wait!”
The girl was sitting again at the end of the street, knees pulled close, trying to disappear into herself like before.
But this time… he didn’t stop.
He knelt down in front of her.
“You knew,” he said softly.
She didn’t answer.
Just looked away.
He lowered his voice. “Why didn’t you keep the money?”
A long pause.
Then she whispered:
“People only listen when you give it back.”
Silence.
Something inside him broke.
“You were trying to warn me,” he said.
She nodded slightly.
For the first time.
He exhaled, overwhelmed.
“You don’t have to be alone,” he said quietly. “Not anymore.”
The girl didn’t respond at first.
Then slowly… she looked at him.
Like she didn’t believe words like that were real.
But he didn’t move.
Didn’t leave.
Just stayed.
And after a long silence—
she finally reached out and took his hand.
Not for money.
Not for help.
Just for safety.
And this time… she didn’t let go.
