Inside The World’s Largest Family: 199 Relatives Living Under One Roof After One Man Married 39 Women

One of the world’s most unbelievable families lives together under a single roof in a massive five-story house — and the numbers alone leave people speechless.

In a small village near the Indian city of Aizawl, 199 family members share one enormous home known as “Chhuar Than Run,” meaning “New Generation.”

At the center of the family was Zion Chana, a man who became famous for marrying 39 women and fathering 89 children. Before his death in 2021 at the age of 76, he led both his giant family and a religious group that supported polygamy.

According to relatives, Zion accepted nearly every woman who asked to marry him, many of them coming from poor families. Inside the home, he was treated almost like a spiritual figure, with family members calling him “chosen,” “a man of God,” and even a “prophet.”

Today, portraits of Zion still cover the huge dining hall where dozens of relatives gather together twice a day for meals.

After his death, leadership of the family passed to his eldest son, Nunparliana, who is now 60 years old and also has two wives. However, many younger family members are slowly moving away from their father’s lifestyle and beliefs.

Some say they only want one spouse and dream of moving to bigger cities or building different lives outside the giant household.

Even so, the enormous family continues growing — and a brand-new house is already being built to make room for future generations.
