Seventeen years after Patrick Swayze’s death, his widow Lisa Niemi has shared a rare photograph of them together — along with an emotional tribute to the man she spent more than three decades beside.
Niemi remembered Swayze as fearless and said he lived his life “100%.” Even after receiving a devastating diagnosis, the actor continued working and refused to simply give up.
Swayze died from pancreatic cancer on September 14, 2009, at the age of 57. According to Lisa, when he first learned how serious his condition was, he told her: “I’m a dead man.” Yet his actions afterward told a different story as he continued fighting and working for as long as possible.
In early 2009, the “Dirty Dancing” star was hospitalized with pneumonia. His health subsequently deteriorated, and he died later that year.
Patrick and Lisa’s love story stretched across decades. They married in 1975 and remained husband and wife until his death, sharing more than 30 years of marriage.
Years later, Niemi found love again, a decision that brought criticism from some of Swayze’s fans. She defended her choice, explaining that life was simply too short not to allow herself to love again.
But on the 17th anniversary of Patrick’s passing, her attention returned to the man who had been beside her for most of her adult life — and one rare photograph brought their extraordinary story back into the spotlight.
