It closely resembles a legendary cape worn by Elizabeth Taylor in 1969, when the Hollywood icon attended Grace Kelly’s 40th birthday celebration. The original piece later sold at Christie’s for €66,500 following Taylor’s death at 79.
But there’s a mystery surrounding Kim’s outfit. Nobody has confirmed whether she purchased the original cape, borrowed it or simply wore a carefully recreated version for filming. Its connection to Taylor’s famous wardrobe remains one of the most intriguing details of her appearance.
The jewelry added another layer of Hollywood history. Taylor originally paired the cape with her spectacular Taylor-Burton necklace, featuring a 69.42-carat pear-shaped diamond. Following her second divorce from Richard Burton, she sold the necklace to jeweler Mouawad in 1979 for €4.5 million, equivalent to approximately €20.5 million today.
