Meet Tessa, affectionately called “Voldemort,” who was born without a nose because of a rare condition called complete congenital arhinia. Her extraordinary journey challenges our views on what makes someone truly remarkable, showcasing incredible resilience and redefining beauty.
Arhinia is a rare condition where the nose doesn’t form during pregnancy, leaving Tessa born without a nose and unable to smell. Despite these obstacles, she approaches life with remarkable enthusiasm and determination.
Tessa’s parents, Grainne and Nathan Evans, learned about their unborn daughter’s condition during an ultrasound at five months. Although they were initially shocked, they committed to giving Tessa the best care and support. After her birth, she required immediate medical treatment, including a tracheotomy to assist with breathing. By the time she was eleven months old, she had cataract surgery.
When Tessa turned two, she underwent major surgery to place prosthetics beneath her skin, paving the way for future nose reconstruction. This procedure involved bone and skin grafts and was carefully planned to accommodate her growing face.
Living without a nose, Tessa has adapted well. She breathes through her mouth and has adjusted to not being able to smell. Her joy and positive attitude showcase her incredible spirit and remind us that true beauty comes from within.
Tessa’s story has inspired many around the world. Her courage and strength show that with determination and support, any challenge can be overcome, offering hope and inspiration to everyone.
