Adriana Iliescu, a professor from Romania, gained international attention when she became a mother for the first time at the age of 67!
She became Romania’s oldest mother and, at that time, the oldest mother in the world, even recognized by the Guinness World Records.
Now 80 years old, Adriana focuses on taking care of herself and making sure her daughter is provided for until she becomes an adult.
Adriana lives in Bucharest, Romania’s capital, and has her own two-room apartment. In an interview, she shared that she feels like the happiest person since welcoming her daughter, Eliza, into her life.
Adriana became pregnant through IVF, and in January 2005, she gave birth to her daughter.
While many people criticized her decision, calling it selfish, and even some friends distanced themselves from her, Adriana ignored the negativity. During her daughter’s baptism, some nuns even said the child was “a creature of darkness.” But the elderly mother didn’t let their opinions affect her.
Adriana has planned everything out for her daughter’s future. She named a guardian, Dr. Bogdan Marinescu, who helped her with the IVF process. She also set aside money to make sure her daughter is financially secure.
Adriana has had a successful career as a professor of Romanian language and a children’s author, having written and published over 25 books.
Now, she fully embraces her role as a mother.
Her daughter, Eliza, has grown into a beautiful and intelligent young girl. At 8 years old, Eliza was already showing promise, and now, at 14, she excels in mathematics, often winning various math competitions.
