When a French couple bought a small house in Belabre, a village in southwest France, they had no idea they were uncovering a link to the past. The house, built in the mid-19th century, had been empty for six years before they purchased it in 2020. As they started fixing it up, they discovered a hidden room sealed behind a wall. Once they broke through the bricks, they were shocked to find themselves in a space from another time. Inside were items that were over 100 years old.

One of the first things they noticed was a military jacket standing on a stand in the center of the room. Though moth-eaten, the jacket still seemed almost new. On the table, they found a mix of old items: pistols, candlesticks, an ashtray, and old photographs.

In the corner, there was a small bottle of dirt with a note attached that read, “Soil from Flanders, where our son Hubert Rocher rested for four years.” Nearby, a bed was decorated with the medals of its former owner, and a large portrait of a young man in uniform hung above it. The couple became intrigued by Hubert Rocher.

They soon learned that Hubert’s parents had vowed never to enter his room again and had sealed it off with bricks. In 1935, they sold the house to a general, who promised not to disturb the sealed room. After the general, the house remained in his family for several decades. The last owner passed away in 2014, and the house was put up for auction.
