The piece was large and striking, with delicate carved patterns that seemed almost too fragile to touch. Inside, the dividers and shelves were made from soft pine. My first task was to remove all the decorative pieces, an essential step to ensure quality restoration.
With the mirror taken out, the frame stood bare. I planned to replace the back panel and remove the inner divider to return the wardrobe to its original design.
Cleaning it was tough because of the soft, resinous pine. The scraper often clogged with resin instead of cutting through it, which was quite frustrating. Where there was lacquer beneath the paint, it came off easily. But in places where the paint had been applied directly to the wood, it resisted every attempt to remove it.
After four days of careful work, the carving was completely cleaned. I used only a hand scraper—no chemicals. This step was essential since paint had even gotten under the intricate details.
Once the decorations were cleaned, I moved on to the next step: a more precise cleaning.
Using a sanding machine with 60 and 80 grit attachments, and after three more days of sanding, the results were noticeable.
Choosing the right finish was challenging. At first, I thought of using a dark oil with brown tones, but we decided to keep the natural light wood color. The metal fittings were placed back, the structure was reassembled, and now, it was time to reveal the final outcome!
