Unfortunately, there are many rare genetic conditions in humans that can deeply affect lives — not just physically, but emotionally, especially when they alter a person’s appearance.
That was the case for a family in Kazakhstan. When their son, Ernur, was born, he seemed like a perfectly healthy baby. But as time passed, something changed — his skin began to lose its elasticity and started to sag. His face slowly took on the appearance of someone much older.
By the time Ernur turned six, it was hard to believe he was still a child — his features resembled those of an elderly man. His mother, growing increasingly concerned, sought help from numerous doctors. Eventually, they diagnosed him with a rare condition called cutis laxa, or “loose skin syndrome.”
But it wasn’t just about looks. This disorder often comes with other serious health issues, though doctors still struggle to understand what causes it or why it develops in certain individuals.
While there’s currently no cure for the condition, plastic surgery can help improve the child’s quality of life — especially in terms of appearance. Ernur has already undergone one such procedure, where doctors removed the excess skin around his eyes. Several more surgeries are planned to help bring his features closer to those of his peers.
Ernur’s journey is difficult, but filled with hope — and the unwavering support of a mother determined to help her son live a full and happy life.
