Georgian cuisine is known for its bold flavors and delicious dishes, and soups hold a special place in it. One such soup is Sheshamadi. It’s simple to make but has a rich and hearty taste that is hard to resist. The main ingredient, red beans, makes the soup filling and healthy, while the spices, fresh vegetables, and herbs add a wonderful aroma and taste. Sheshamadi is perfect for warming up on chilly days and is a great option for a family meal.

Ingredients:

800 g canned red beans
200 g onions
350 g potatoes
4 garlic cloves
30 g butter
2 tbsp vegetable oil
2 tbsp tomato paste
800 ml water
15 g fresh cilantro
1 tsp khmeli-suneli
1 tsp red chili pepper flakes
0.5 tsp ground black pepper
2 tsp salt
How to Make Sheshamadi:

Prepare the Onions
In a sturdy pot, heat vegetable oil and melt butter. Cook the finely chopped onions until they are soft and translucent.

Add Potatoes
Stir in the diced potatoes and pour in water. Stir well, bring to a boil, cover, and let it cook on low heat for about 15 minutes.

Add Beans and Spices
Pour in canned red beans along with their juice. Add tomato paste, chili flakes, black pepper, and khmeli-suneli. Mix everything and bring the soup to a boil. Then, allow it to simmer over low heat for another 10 minutes.

Final Touches
Stir in the chopped cilantro and minced garlic. For a thicker consistency, you can blend part of the soup and mix it back in.

Serve the hot Sheshamadi with fresh bread. This tasty and aromatic soup will surely warm you up and leave you feeling satisfied.
