Alyona, a kind and determined single mom, made a brave decision—she bought a run-down 60-square-meter three-room apartment. What once was a forgotten Soviet-era home turned into the perfect place for her to create her dream in Scandinavian style.
At first glance, the apartment would have scared off many. The walls were old and damaged, the floors squeaked, and the plumbing was in bad shape. But Alyona didn’t let any of that stop her. Full of energy and ideas, she rolled up her sleeves and got to work.
She replaced all the wiring and pipes, leveled the walls, and slowly brought order to the space. The biggest challenge turned out to be the kitchen. Every bit of space had to be carefully planned.
“I had to redo the kitchen layout a few times,” Alyona says. “I wanted one design, but there was always something in the way—like a pipe here, not enough space there… But I didn’t give up. Now, every evening, having tea here with my daughter feels so cozy.”
And the final result was even better than she expected! The kitchen now has soft gray-blue cabinets, simple furniture, and lots of natural light. It feels peaceful and comfortable. There’s a small table where Alyona and her daughter enjoy meals, and a larger table in the living room for when guests come over.
In the evening, when the soft lights are turned on, the kitchen becomes a warm, inviting space filled with charm and peace.
