In this article, we’ll show how a typical old-style kitchen got a beautiful makeover, all thanks to a family that decided to renovate. With a few smart changes, better use of space, and a cozy Scandinavian design, the once cramped kitchen became both stylish and practical.
The original layout wasn’t great. There was a tiny combined bathroom and a narrow hallway leading into the kitchen. The family came up with a clever idea: move the kitchen entrance so that it connected to the living room. This allowed them to make the bathroom bigger and create room for a washing machine and refrigerator.
What They Changed
Walls and ceiling:
The walls were smoothed out with plaster, then covered with special wallpaper and painted white. A flat stretch ceiling was added, with three light sources — two spotlights over the work area and one lamp over the dining table.
Wiring:
All the old wires were replaced with new ones to make everything safer and more modern.
Floors:
They used 14 mm thick wooden flooring throughout the apartment, including in the kitchen.
Kitchen units:
They ordered kitchen cabinets without a countertop and had the worktop and window sill made separately to match the space perfectly.
Tiles:
They picked out wall tiles that matched the simple and clean look of Scandinavian design.
Fridge space:
Because of the new layout, they created a special niche just for the refrigerator. It fits perfectly and doesn’t take up too much room.
The End Result
Even though the family had just moved in and hadn’t finished furnishing everything, the kitchen already looked great. The new layout made it much easier to move around, and the soft colors and smart lighting made it feel warm and welcoming. It’s now the kind of place where everyone wants to sit down and talk over a cup of tea.
