Eliza, a creative mom from Canada, wanted to update the room where her sons lived. But instead of heading to a furniture store, she took an unexpected route—she went to a local dump.
There, among piles of discarded items, she found a few treasures: an old folding table, a half-finished wardrobe with broken doors, a wicker basket, two bird paintings, a small wooden box, and a handful of books.
Without hesitation, Eliza loaded everything into her trailer and brought it home. The first thing she did was clean everything thoroughly using a strong detergent. Then she got to work breathing new life into the old items.
She started with the wardrobe. Eliza really liked the shade of green that was already on part of it, so she found matching paint and used it to repaint the outside. She also painted the shelves inside white and added a new sliding door system to replace the broken hinges.
Next was the table. Its surface was in poor shape, so she removed the old tabletop, smoothed out the base, applied primer, and gave it a fresh coat of white paint. To add a special touch, she painted a soft, delicate pattern on top.
For the books and wooden box, Eliza had a creative idea: she cut the pages and attached them to the outside of the box, turning it into a secret storage space for valuables.
She also found frames at home for the bird paintings, painted them white, and hung them as a matching set on the wall to tie the room together.
The wicker basket was in perfect shape, so she used it as a decorative vase for flowers.
In the end, the room looked completely transformed—and the best part? Eliza spent almost nothing. Her family was amazed at what she was able to create from what others had thrown away. With a bit of effort and imagination, Eliza turned someone else’s trash into a cozy, beautiful space for her children.
