When 28-year-old Sam Scribner fell from a hammock and broke his neck, his world changed overnight. With the money from that sale, they purchased a second school bus in 2020. This time, Alex took on the challenge almost entirely by herself. Over the course of a year and a half, she stripped the bus, rebuilt its interior, and created a comfortable and practical living space for Sam. The project cost around $35,000, but Alex insisted on doing things right, building a home they could rely on.
By May 2021, the second bus was ready. It was equipped with a wheelchair lift, a fully accessible bathroom, and open spaces designed with Sam’s needs in mind. Every feature was built with care, from the kitchen setup to the custom areas Alex continues to add, like a dining space with benches that allow Sam to roll right in.
For Alex, the project was more than just building a vehicle. She wanted to understand how everything worked so she could fix it herself if needed, ensuring they could travel without worrying about waiting for help. The bus wasn’t just about mobility — it was about independence.
