Grow Fresh Green Onions Indoors This Winter Using Plastic Bottles!

“Why buy onions… when your windowsill can grow them for free?” 🌱🤯 A few bottles, a handful of soil — and suddenly you’ve got a mini farm in the middle of winter. See how it works in the article below 👇📸

Did you know you can grow green onions at home in the middle of winter—without buying them from the store? With just a few simple supplies, you can enjoy fresh onion greens straight from your windowsill.

All you’ll need is:

  • Onion sets (any variety works, though shallots are excellent).

  • A few 1.5-liter plastic bottles.

  • Potting soil.

  • Water for regular care.

To make your mini indoor farm, simply cut the bottles in half. Place the top part with the neck upside down into the bottom half to create a container. Fill it with soil and set the onions on top after trimming off their tips. You can keep the bottles on a windowsill or even hang them for convenience.

The first shoots will start to appear in just a few days, and in about three to four weeks, you’ll have a full harvest of fresh, crisp greens. This method doesn’t take much space, works year-round, and saves money on store-bought herbs.
