Wild animals usually avoid people and they only come in contact when they need help. A similar incident happened in the UK just recently. An owl was brought to the staff of the Suffolk Owls Reserve who was sitting in a ditch and couldn’t move or fly. Experts assumed that the bird was injured or she got wet in the rain but there was no visible damage on her. The cause of all the troubles was found only after weighing the cutie. The result showed that the owl was simply overweight. The staff of the reserve said that the cute bird should be put on a diet and after a couple of weeks she was able to go into the wild.
They thought that the feathered creature escaped from the owner but she ate mostly wild food so the guesses were not confirmed. The owl was examined at the clinic but nothing serious was found. After weighing the owl it turned out that there was hidden some extra fat under the fluffy feathers – the owl weighed 245 grams, which is a third more than the norm.
It turned out that she ate too many mice.
Chubby was put on a diet to get into flight shape and after a few weeks she got leaner and headed back into the wild. Later it turned out that there is a field on which many mice were born this year not far from the place where the owl was found. Apparently, the bird couldn’t resist and ate more than the normal amount is and then she sat and waited until she lost weight.
The owl is lucky that she fell into the caring hands of professionals. We hope that now she will keep herself in shape and remain the same slender c
