Separated At Just Three Months Old, These Sisters Defied All Odds — And Their Transformation Is Amazing

“They were born as one — but fate had other plans” 💔✨ Britain’s first conjoined twins to survive separation are now 20… and their story is more unbelievable than ever. See the rare photos in the article below 👇📸

Two sisters from Great Barr, Birmingham, who survived Britain’s first-ever spinal separation surgery, are now 20 years old and speaking out about their gratitude for life as “two separate people.”

Eman and Sanchia were born conjoined and given only a 5–25% chance of survival. Doctors warned that the groundbreaking operation — performed only twice before worldwide — could leave them paralyzed. In 2001, when the twins were just three months old, surgeons at Birmingham Children’s Hospital undertook a risky 16-hour procedure that ultimately saved their lives.

Appearing on ITV’s “Lorraine,” the sisters praised the doctors who performed the surgery, as well as their parents, who had to make the difficult decision to go ahead despite all the risks. “We can only imagine what our parents went through,” Eman said. “But we are so grateful they chose surgery, because it gave us the chance to live as two people.”

Their younger sister Damaris often joins them in raising money for the hospital by singing together. Both twins live with long-term health challenges — including spina bifida, back pain, and mobility issues that require crutches. “We’ve been called walking miracles, and while we do face limitations, we are still able to live normal lives,” Sanchia explained.

Despite the difficulties, the sisters insist they focus on gratitude rather than obstacles. “We’re just thankful for the lives we have,” they added. “We’ll always be grateful to the surgeons who gave us the chance to be two individuals.”
