The Diver Didn’t Understand Why the Dolphin Was Blocking Her — Until She Saw It

The sea was calm — smooth surface, crystal-clear water, a gentle breeze.
Anna, an experienced diver, had been diving here many times before. She loved this place — the corals, the colorful fish, the soft sand on the seabed. Everything felt familiar and safe.

This time, a dolphin appeared near the boat. It swam slowly, as if observing her.
Anna smiled — such encounters had always seemed like a good omen.
When she dove in, the dolphin followed. It swam around her, came close but didn’t touch.

After a few minutes, Anna noticed it was behaving strangely — too insistently.
It kept coming closer, nudging her with its side, as if trying to push her away from the reef.
At first, she thought it was just playing. But soon, unease crept in.
The dolphin suddenly dove right in front of her, blocking her path.

Anna lifted her eyes — and saw a shadow.
Far away, but approaching fast.
A massive shape. A fin slicing through the water.
A shark.

Her heart froze.
Anna began to move back carefully, trying not to make any sudden motions.
The dolphin stayed by her side — circling between her and the predator, creating a living shield.
When the shark came dangerously close, the dolphin darted toward it, emitting a loud clicking sound and stirring the water with powerful waves.
The shark slowed, turned aside — and disappeared into the depths.

Anna surfaced, gasping for air.
The dolphin came up beside her, spraying a fountain of water — watching until she climbed into the boat.
Only then did it make one final circle around her… and vanish beneath the waves.

Later, marine biologists confirmed that dolphins do, indeed, protect humans from sharks when they sense danger.
But Anna knew — it wasn’t just instinct.
He seemed to understand exactly what he was doing.

Since then, she always returns to that same place.
And sometimes, when the water is especially clear and the sun is high,
a familiar silhouette glides beneath her boat.

And Anna smiles softly:
— “Thank you, my friend.”
