Kiera and Richard Reid from Essex made a decision that many people first called “crazy.” They quit their jobs, sold their house, and completely changed their lives — choosing to travel and live in a truck with their three children.
The idea first appeared in 2019, when the couple began dreaming about a life on the road. Today, seven years later, that dream has become their everyday reality.

The Reid family includes Kiera and Richard, their children Piper, 9, Jack, 8, and Teddy, 5, as well as their Labrador, Charlie, who travels everywhere with them.
Before the big change, their life looked very different. They lived in a three-bedroom house in Essex. Richard worked in the forestry sector, while Kiera had a job in marketing.
Eventually they decided to take a risk. After selling their home, they bought their first camper truck and set off on a five-month journey across Europe.

Now their travels continue closer to home as they explore the coastline of the United Kingdom.
Inside the truck, every corner has been carefully designed to make the small space comfortable for the whole family. Custom-built beds allow each child to have their own personal area.
Kiera explained that they wanted every child to feel they had more than just a place to sleep. Each small corner is designed as a personal space where the kids can read, play, and relax after long days of exploring.

The children have filled their areas with toys and personal belongings that make the truck feel like home.
A video showing the inside of the family’s mobile home recently went viral on TikTok. Thousands of viewers were impressed by the creative use of space and the surprisingly cozy layout.
For Richard, one of the biggest changes has been financial freedom. Leaving their traditional lifestyle behind allowed the family to escape the heavy pressure of mortgage payments.

“We used to pay the bank every single month,” he said. “Now we are debt-free. Everything we have belongs to us and we don’t owe anyone anything.”
To keep expenses low, the family often parks their truck in free camping areas. Their children also study at home through a flexible homeschooling routine.
Kiera teaches subjects such as English and nature studies, while Richard focuses on mathematics. Together they also explore topics that spark the children’s curiosity, including lessons about the oceans and the natural world.
For the Reid family, the road has become both their classroom and their home.
