Kate Middleton has once again turned to Princess Diana for fashion inspiration, but this time the tribute was anything but subtle. For the King’s birthday celebrations at Trooping the Colour, the Princess of Wales appeared in a look strikingly reminiscent of one Diana wore nearly four decades ago.
Kate chose a tailored baby-blue coat by Catherine Walker. With its structured shoulders and contrasting white details, the design immediately brought back memories of Diana’s outfit from Easter 1987.

The resemblance went beyond the color. Diana’s coat was also created by Catherine Walker and featured a remarkably similar silhouette and detailing. In photographs from the time, a young Prince William even coordinated with his mother in a matching blue-and-white ensemble.

Kate completed her latest look with a wide-brimmed Philip Treacy hat featuring an elaborate knotted decoration, along with Gianvito Rossi shoes.
But one particularly meaningful detail came directly from Diana’s collection. Kate wore a three-strand pearl and diamond bracelet created for the late princess by jeweler Nigel Milne during the 1980s.

Princess Charlotte also coordinated beautifully with her mother. The 11-year-old wore a white Alessandra Rich dress embroidered with delicate pale-blue flowers, matching the family’s overall color palette.

Charlotte finished her outfit with Pretty Ballerinas shoes and a white bow in her hair. As she waved to the crowd, a similar bracelet could also be seen on her wrist, adding another touching detail to the family’s coordinated appearance.
