A phenomenal flamingo with black feathers was captured by a wildlife photographer in Cyprus

While flamingoes are gorgeous and charming birds mostly famous for their bright pinky skin color, this unusual one has been caught on camera in Cyprus and its unique beauty and elegance is something out of this world! Recently, a very infrequent and unique flamingo was surprisingly spotted and instantly made the wildlife enthusiasts sincerely admire him. It was the only flamingo with black skin color ever discovered on our planet, yet the bird’s distinctive feature has an exact explanation: the bird is currently in a very scarce condition called melanism. Compared with albinism, melanism provides with an excessive pigmentation of bird’ feathers.

Unlike wild animal, melanism occurs very occasionally in case of birds, especially with hawks and ducks. But lately, one enthusiastic amateur photographer captured such an astonishing moment that immediately became a real internet sensation.

This rare black flamingo that was witnessed at the Akrotiri Environment Center can effortlessly use its distinctive appearance as an effective source of protection against savages. The only disadvantage of its strange look is that the pigmented feathers are much more fragile and can easily break.
