Nicolas Cage recently shared that he had to take on roles in low-budget films, even knowing they wouldn’t boost his fame. The Oscar-winning actor admitted this was due to some poor financial decisions that left him in major debt.

“I invested heavily in real estate. I wasn’t able to pull out in time when the market collapsed. I eventually paid it all back, but it was around six million dollars. But I never filed for bankruptcy,” Cage proudly stated.

Cage is thankful that his acting work helped him recover financially, though it meant putting his principles aside and accepting roles in films with limited chances of success, often directed by newcomers. For him, work is simply work, even when it doesn’t provide a sense of personal satisfaction.

“Even if the film didn’t turn out well, people know I won’t step back from work because it matters to me,” Cage explained, justifying some of his less successful roles in an interview with 60 Minutes.

He’s convinced that to endure, one must adjust to changing conditions, even if it means considering new sources of energy and food.

As an example, he suggests the potential of insects as a food source. According to Cage, insects are packed with protein, low in fat, and nutritionally comparable to meat.

“If you can overcome the fear and hesitation about eating insects, you could help tackle global hunger. High protein, low fat, excellent nutrition—and they’re everywhere!” Cage advocated.
