A few weeks ago, I had an urge to buy random junk and turn it into something functional 😌🫢 It felt crazy at first, but the result? 🧐 Unexpectedly brilliant. Here’s what happened when I decided to give it a shot ☺️😉 See the result in the article below 👇
As a result, a chair was bought from some guy in a garage.
The chair was completely killed, nothing alive except for the wood there is certainly not left. The foam long ago turned into plasticine, the fabric was also tossed and in place of furniture slings there were some rubber bands from underpants. Since the foam was crumbling, I picked the chair on the stairwell. In the end, after throwing out everything unrecoverable, I was left with only this:
I actually the first time doing it, and no experience and workshop I do not have, on this did everything on my knees. Thanks to YouTube, without it I would not have taken out, for any problem that I had, I just found the right guide on YouTube. For example, to remove pole resin from pens, you need only an iron and foil.
This is the layer of varnish removed from Soviet furniture.
To sand the wood before a new painting, I asked to visit friends who did rough repair of the house, and for 4 hours cleaned all the wooden elements of varnish and stain.
Then, already at home, re-coated the wood with 2 layers of stain and 3 layers of varnish. I was very worried that I would not get the desired color, but everything came out perfectly. Half of the work was done.
Next for me was the most difficult moment. The chair needed to be upholstered.
I bought furniture slings and spent almost 700 staples on the seat and back to get them on.
The thing that pissed me off the most was the foam. I ignorantly always thought that the foam is some kind of penny stuff, but it turned out that good foam is quite expensive plus sold in huge sheets. As a result, having tortured myself and squeezing the toad, I bought a good foam rubber of medium hardness. On the seat and chair over the slings was put spunbond, foam, syntepon and on top of all this was covered with furniture fabric of deep green color.
Covering the chair was certainly not done perfectly, but it was the first experience, so I think that it turned out all not bad.
Well, in the end we got this chair.
