I was in the store picking out curtains when I overheard something…sellers there don’t just sell—they know how to make yellowed tulle white again, even after the sun has eaten into the fabric 🤯😮 Came home, tried it —couldn’t believe my eyes 🫢 Sharing everything in the article below 🔥👇
Recently, I went to a fabric store to pick out new curtains for my windows. While I was there, I overheard a man talking to the salesperson. He was upset because his tulle had turned yellow.
Instead of suggesting he buy new curtains, the salesperson shared a way to whiten them.
I immediately listened closely because I had the same problem. After washing, tulle usually looks clean and fresh, but those yellow marks from the sun still stay. You might not notice them when the curtains are hanging, but they show up clearly when ironing.
Right now, I’m doing renovations, and I need to wash my tulle. Over the summer, it became gray and dusty. In September, the weather was hot, over 30 degrees, with strong winds, so the curtains picked up a lot of dirt.
For bleaching, I use three simple things: washing soda, liquid laundry soap, and BOS bleach.
How I Bleach My Tulle:
The bleaching process takes two steps:
First, I make a soaking solution using soap and soda in equal amounts. I use a small 100-gram measuring cup, pour in both ingredients, and add enough water to cover the curtains. I let them soak for about half a day while I go about my chores.
From time to time, I stir and turn the curtains in the water. After just 30 minutes, I can already see the dirt lifting off. That’s when I know the whitening is working.
Once they’ve soaked, I rinse the curtains well. The water gets very soapy, and if you don’t rinse properly, the foam can end up inside your washing machine.
Next, I wash the tulle in the machine as usual, using laundry gel or powder, and adding BOS bleach. I set the temperature to 60 degrees.
The whole process takes almost a full day, but I don’t actually spend much time on it. The cleaning products do all the hard work.
All I need to do is stir the curtains a few times in the bucket and later load them into the washer. The bleach finishes the job.
Just look at the result—the tulle is bright white again, and the yellow marks are gone. I’m so happy I learned this method. It helped me bring my old curtains back to life.
Now they look like new, and I can enjoy their clean, fresh look in my updated home.
