The Brown family from the United States has shared a heartwarming story of an unusual friendship between their golden retriever and a wild deer. Here’s how their incredible bond began and continues to this day.
The family lives in a house near the forest, where they organize hiking trails for visitors. Their home is always filled with cats and dogs, but occasionally, they also care for injured or orphaned wildlife. Eleven years ago, a tiny fawn found her way to them.
The young deer had been hit by a car but was lucky to survive with only minor injuries. Though scared, she was taken in by the family to heal and regain her strength before being released back into the wild. A young retriever, named G-Bro by the Browns’ son, instantly took to the fawn and showed her special care.

They named the fawn Buttons, and she quickly became inseparable from G-Bro. For several months, the Browns carefully nurtured her, making sure she remained independent enough to return to the wild when ready. Their efforts paid off—Buttons adapted to life with other deer but never forgot the family that had helped her.

After some time away, she returned—but this time, she wasn’t alone. Buttons proudly introduced her newborn fawns to G-Bro, as if showing them their honorary “uncle.” Over the years, this ritual has continued. Every time Buttons has a new fawn, she brings them to visit her old friend.
Videos capturing their adorable interactions—G-Bro gently licking the baby deer and playfully chasing Buttons—have gone viral, gathering tens of millions of views. The Browns frequently document these sweet moments, joking that Buttons sees their home as her own and considers them her caretakers. Now, multiple generations of her offspring can be spotted around the property.
Buttons has also developed a routine. If she wants company and doesn’t see any pets outside, she confidently knocks on the kitchen’s glass door with her hoof, inviting G-Bro to play or looking for a treat.

She remains friendly with all the family’s pets and even welcomes other temporary wildlife guests at the estate. To keep her safe during hunting season, the Browns ensure she wears a reflective collar.
What started as a chance encounter between a fawn and a retriever has turned into an incredible lifelong bond, proving that friendship knows no boundaries—even between species.
