The parrot learned to say only one word. And that word saved the cat…

When the Belyaev family got a parrot named Kesha, everyone laughed — he was funny but completely silent.
For weeks, not a sound. No “Hello,” no “Kesha good.” He just watched everyone with his curious eyes.

— Maybe he’s just lazy? — joked the mother.
— Or too smart to talk for no reason, — laughed the father.

But it was this “silent wonder” that one day became a hero.

The Belyaevs had another pet — a cat named Sonya. Snow-white, fluffy, with eyes like those of a porcelain doll.
Kesha and Sonya had a strange friendship: the parrot liked to sit on the back of the couch and “observe,” while the cat would look up at him from below, as if she understood that peace ruled their home.

One day, the mother went to the store, the father was at work, and Sonya was napping on the balcony.
It was a quiet summer day, the windows wide open.
Suddenly, the sky darkened — rain began to fall. A gust of wind slammed the balcony door shut.
Sonya was trapped outside.

A few minutes later, thunder rumbled, and the frightened cat tried to jump to the neighboring windowsill.
But her paw slipped — she hung on, clinging to the railing with her claws.

Inside the apartment, only the parrot was there.
Kesha noticed that the cat was in trouble.
He became restless, jumped around his cage, spread his wings — and suddenly…
He screamed in a human voice:

— SO-O-NYA!!! SO-O-NYA!!! SO-O-NYA!!!

The neighbors below looked up:
— Who’s shouting up there? —
When the mother returned, she heard the desperate cry of the parrot from the stairwell.
She rushed inside, ran to the balcony — and froze:
Sonya was dangling from the railing, hanging by her last claws.

The mother managed to grab her just as the cat was about to fall.
And the parrot sat on top of his cage, beak wide open, still repeating the same word he had learned by listening to his owner lovingly call the cat every day:
— “Sonya! Sonya!”

When everyone finally calmed down, the mother hugged both the cat and Kesha’s cage.
The parrot proudly straightened up and softly repeated:
— “Sonya, good girl!”

Since then, Kesha has become a local celebrity.
The neighbors tell everyone the story of “the bird who saved the cat.”
Now he knows more words — “rescuer,” “hero,” “cat” — and every time Sonya goes out onto the balcony, the parrot watches carefully and mutters:
— “Sonya! Be careful!”
