You don’t need strong-smelling store-bought dyes to make beautiful Easter eggs. Chef Alexei Besedin shared how to get rich green and red colors using everyday ingredients—no chemicals needed!

Green From Greens
If you want a soft or deep green color, skip the artificial stuff. The secret is chlorophyll, which is found in leafy greens.

“You can use whatever herbs you have in the kitchen—spinach, dill, parsley, even green onions work great,” says the chef.

Here’s how to do it:

Chop up the greens and place them in a pot with water.

Let it simmer for about 10 minutes, watching the color.

For a stronger color, blend the greens right in the pot.

Drop in your white eggs while the broth is still hot and leave them there for 20–30 minutes.

Red From Beets
There’s no need to use red food coloring or fancy powders. Beets are a natural and vibrant way to get a beautiful red shade.

What to do:

Grate or slice one raw beet.

Add it to 0.5 liters of water and boil for 15 minutes.

Place your boiled eggs in the beet broth and soak them for around 30 minutes.

The end result? Naturally dyed Easter eggs with soft, beautiful colors—without using a single drop of artificial dye. Not only is this method safer, but it also brings a warm, homemade touch to your holiday.
