Prince William was said to be outraged upon learning allegations that Meghan Markle had mistreated palace staff. In 2021, a year after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down from royal duties, a private email from palace aide Jason Knauf emerged, raising worries about Meghan’s supposed treatment of employees — claims she has consistently denied.
The message stated: “I am very concerned that over the past year, the Duchess has managed to drive two personal assistants out of the household. The treatment of X was completely unacceptable.” While Meghan has strongly rejected these accusations, they are said to have deeply angered Prince William.
According to royal author Robert Lacey, William was “horrified” when Knauf — who was not only a staff member but also a friend — told him about the alleged mistreatment by Meghan and Harry. Lacey described William as “furious” and “shocked” upon hearing the claims.
After Knauf handed over a dossier about the supposed incidents, William called his brother Harry, who reportedly “flew into a rage defending his wife.” Lacey says Harry abruptly hung up the phone, prompting William to immediately go looking for him at Kensington Palace.
