Eight-year-old Ella-Rose Kitching from County Durham, England, recently made a life-changing decision — she cut off her hair for the very first time. Her wavy locks measured an incredible 109 cm, but instead of simply changing her look, Ella donated them to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that creates real-hair wigs for children who lose their hair during cancer treatment.
For Ella, convincing her mom, Louise Clarke, to allow the haircut was the hardest part. “It was bittersweet for me because I love her hair,” Louise admitted. “I tried to persuade her to wait until she finished primary school, but she was determined to do it now.” On February 19, Ella went to Hair by Adele in Sherburn, County Durham, and watched her beloved hair being cut away.
After the big moment, Ella’s reaction was full of joy. “I look so different, but I really like it. My head feels so light. I’m really happy,” she said. Her mother added that beyond helping others, the haircut would also make life simpler at home, since Ella’s thick, wavy hair required endless conditioner and hours of care.
Alongside donating her hair, Ella went a step further — raising £1,000 for the Bradley Lowery Foundation, named after the young Sunderland football fan who tragically died of cancer. “There are so many people with cancer who don’t have hair,” Ella explained. “I thought it was important to help.”
Her mother, Louise, couldn’t be prouder. “Wherever we went, people praised her and called her Rapunzel. But she never enjoyed the attention. She’s always been kind and wanted to help others, and this proves what kind of person she is becoming,” she shared.
