“Pilot finally reveals why airplane mode matters” ✈️📱 His explanation shocked passengers — and it’s not the myth you thought it was. See the reason everyone’s talking about in the article below 👇📸
A commercial pilot has explained why passengers are always asked to switch their phones to airplane mode — and it’s not just airline “myth-making.”
Posting on TikTok, the pilot emphasized that the rule is based on real safety concerns. “The airplane mode button is not a conspiracy,” he said. “If you forget to turn it on, no, the plane won’t suddenly fall out of the sky. But it can still create problems.”
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), phone signals can interfere with an aircraft’s communication and navigation systems. While the risk of a crash is virtually nonexistent, there are possible side effects, such as static or interference in the pilots’ headsets — especially if several passengers leave their devices connected.

The pilot explained that if just a few phones start searching for cell towers at the same time, it sends out radio waves that can disrupt communications. During one of his own landings, he recalled hearing an irritating buzzing noise in his headset, comparing it to the sound of a mosquito.
Although no crashes have ever been directly linked to phone interference, experts still consider airplane mode a smart precaution. It keeps flights safer, reduces distractions, and helps pilots stay fully focused during critical moments.
