Making an appearance at the Venice Film Festival, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson drew attention with a noticeably slimmer frame. He was on hand to promote The Smashing Machine, in which he stars as UFC fighter Mark Kerr.
The actor appeared in good spirits, smiling, laughing, and chatting warmly with colleagues and reporters. Still, social media users couldn’t help but react to his appearance with mixed feelings. Comments ranged from light jokes to real concern: “The Rock turned into a pebble…”, “This looks AI-generated”, and “I hope he’s not ill because he looks so thin”. Some even doubted the authenticity of the photos, claiming, “Six or seven months ago he was in perfect shape. He couldn’t have lost so much muscle mass this fast.”
The 53-year-old star, however, has been open about his physical changes, admitting that he reshaped his body for the sake of his new role.
“I really wanted to live this transformation. I’ve been fortunate to have such a long career and make so many films, but there was a quiet voice inside me saying, ‘What if I can do more?’ And I want to do more,” Johnson explained while discussing the project at the festival.
