17-year-old Supatra Sasuphan from Bangkok became known throughout the world after she was officially recognized as the “hairiest girl” in 2010 due to a rare hereditary disease called Ambras syndrome.

Shortly after birth, the girl surprised doctors: hair grew rapidly all over her body, and later thick vegetation completely covered her face. But despite the diagnosis, Supatra lived like a normal child — she studied, swam, danced, and made friends with her peers.

Sometimes she faced ridicule, but she quickly learned to ignore the haters and be comfortable with her appearance. Numerous attempts to remove the hair — procedures, medications, surgeries — were unsuccessful.

But her illness did not prevent her from finding love. Supatra met a young man, and they recently got married. Now she simply shaves her face regularly and continues to live the way she wants.
