“What Did He Do to Himself?” Brad Pitt’s 70s Mustache and Wig Spark Brutal Reactions After Super Bowl Trailer Drop

It was meant to be a comeback moment. Instead, the mustache stole the show.

Football fans expecting nothing more than the game were caught off guard when a Super Bowl teaser revealed the first glimpse of The Adventures of Cliff Booth, marking Brad Pitt’s return at 62 to his Oscar-winning stuntman role. But rather than celebrating the spin-off, viewers fixated on his retro 1970s mustache and noticeably artificial blond wig.

In the new chapter, Cliff Booth reemerges as a Hollywood studio fixer navigating the industry’s darker corners. The aesthetic leans heavily into the era — and that bold transformation didn’t sit well with everyone.

Social media reacted instantly. “We prefer Brad when he looks sexy, not like this,” one comment read. Others questioned the wig choice, with one viral remark saying, “Angelina Jolie must have burst out laughing.” Still, some defended the look as part of the character’s gritty 70s identity.

In the trailer, Booth is seen encountering new figures brought to life by Elizabeth Debicki and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. In another scene, he places an Oscar statuette on a table — a playful nod to Pitt’s real-life Academy Award win for Best Supporting Actor, while co-star Leonardo DiCaprio left that ceremony without a trophy.

The film assembles an impressive ensemble, with Scott Caan, Elizabeth Debicki, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Carla Gugino, Holt McCallany, and JB Tadena rounding out the cast. The script comes from Quentin Tarantino, while directing duties are handled by David Fincher, marking another collaboration between Fincher and Brad Pitt after iconic films like Se7en, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Tarantino also stays on board as a producer, joined by Pitt, David Heyman, Ceán Chaffin, and Stacey Sher. Behind the camera, cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt brings the visual vision to life.

Set in the 1970s, the story continues after the events of the original film. Whether DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton will return remains unclear.

But before audiences could debate the plot, they were already arguing about the hair.
