“Just look what our dog brought!”. The man exclaimed. The couple living in Washington County didn’t expect their pet to bring such a “surprise” at home.
When the dog returned from walk, it was holding something nearly in its mouth. Interested owners came closer and saw what she had brought into the house…a little bear! The crumb weighed only five hundred grams, while he was dehydrated and, of course hungry.
The owners immediately contacted the rescuers, who took the baby to the Virginia Wildlife Center.
Amanda Nicolson one of the staff, says that the black bear rescued by the dog quickly recovered and gained strength. He was returned to the wildlife, giving it to the bear, which began to look after the baby as if it were a family.
Most importantly, the bear was found healthy. Pets often find cubs, but it is extremely rare, that babies aren’t harmed. A significant number of animals fall into the paws of freely walking domestic cats and dogs.
But the dog, which found and brought the bear to the owners, acted very carefully, realising that one shouldn’t grit his teeth too much! This is who a really good girl is. It is thanks to her, that the baby is now alive.
The Wildlife Center treats over 3000 wild animals annually at its hospital. The little bear cub, now returned to the wild, was first housed in an incubator. A feeding schedule was specially calculated for him every hour. Thanks to the efforts of the staff, the baby survived and now lives under the supervision of a foster mother next to other cubs.
Perhaps now the crumb weights a little more than a loaf of bread, but when it grows up, this figure will reach 250 kilograms! The animal will be able to flip boulders weighing 140 kilograms with one paw.
Grow big and healthy, baby!
