The captivating soap operas that once thrilled audiences in the Soviet Union were filled with drama and emotion, making viewers eagerly anticipate each new episode. These series were like little slices of life, drawing us into the lives of their characters.

The most iconic soap opera of the Soviet era was “Santa Barbara,” which became a classic with its 2137 episodes. Produced in the U.S. from July 30, 1984, to January 15, 1993, it aired in the Soviet Union for ten years, starting January 2, 1992. The only other show with a similar run time is “Supernatural,” which lasted 15 years.

Viewers were glued to their screens, captivated by the romantic struggles of Eden and Cruz. The series offered a glimpse into California life and many wished they could be part of the drama. Despite its global success, “Santa Barbara” remained only an average show in the U.S. with modest ratings.

Marcy Walker, who starred in the series, appeared in a few other projects but struggled to find success in Hollywood. She often missed out on roles to other actors and was sometimes even overlooked for auditions.

Marcy’s personal life was also troubled. She was married five times, finally finding happiness with her fifth husband, Doug Smith, with whom she has been for 25 years. She had a son with her third husband, who also tried acting.

In 2005, Marcy decided to leave show business and dedicate herself to religion. She was ordained as a priest in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of North Carolina and now enjoys spreading the Word of God, especially to children. While some parishioners still remember her from “Santa Barbara,” Marcy has no regrets about her acting career or her decision to leave it behind.
