Although 49-year-old Charlize Theron has had her own Instagram account for a while, she doesn’t often share personal photos.

But on January 27, the Oscar-winning actress had a special reason to post family photos. Charlize’s mother, Gerda, was celebrating her birthday.
To mark the occasion, Theron shared a few photos with her mother, and one picture, in particular, caught the attention of her followers and others online.
In the photo, Charlize’s mother is seen with her grandchildren, Jackson and Augusta—images that are rarely seen on Charlize’s Instagram.
“Today is my mom’s birthday. I wanted to share these photos because everyone who knows her understands what it’s like to be warmed by her light. She embodies life itself. She laughs louder than anyone I’ve ever known. She’s an amazing tennis player, golfer, traveler, and just an incredible person to talk to,” Charlize wrote.
