“No one wanted it for $70 — so she turned it into a showpiece” 🪵💡 Left with an unsellable old trundle bed, Victoria got creative. With just $15 and a bold redesign, she transformed it into a stunning modern piece that’s now worth much more. See the final result in the article below 👇
One day, Victoria realized she still had an old trundle bed left from a Bulgarian furniture set called “Milena.” It had been sitting around since she sold her apartment. She tried to list it for $70 on a classifieds site, but no one seemed interested. People viewed the listing and even saved it, but no one followed through to buy it.
Victoria decided it was time for a new strategy. If she couldn’t sell the piece as it was, she would give it a makeover. First, she removed all the rounded details from the front and the top shelf to modernize its look. Then, she used wooden slats to create a fresh new front and smoothed out any uneven surfaces. The old curved legs were replaced with more modern, geometric ones, which she coated with Belinka oil for a natural wood finish. She also swapped out the hinges and handles for newer ones.
The top of the trundle, made from chipboard, was painted to look like real wood. Victoria mixed acrylic enamel, acrylic lacquer, and water to create a wood-like effect, applying the mixture to a damp surface. If something didn’t turn out right, she simply wiped it away with a wet cloth and tried again until she got it right.
All in all, the makeover cost her around $15, and now she’s confident that the upgraded piece will sell for much more than the original $70 asking price.
