When Olivia and Jack Munro bought their 400-year-old property in 2023, they knew they were taking on a huge project. With more than £200,000 in renovations needed, the couple rolled up their sleeves and decided to dedicate weekends to restoring the historic home themselves.

Over the past two years, their DIY journey has revealed plenty of surprises — from hidden fireplaces tucked behind the walls to original architectural details that had been lost to time. But nothing compared to what they stumbled upon outside in their backyard.
While clearing soil during routine work, an excavator shifted the ground just enough to reveal something unexpected: the brick outline of a 72-meter-deep well. Olivia admitted that curiosity quickly took over. Shining a flashlight down the abyss, the couple realized they had uncovered a feature no one even knew existed.
At first, they left the discovery untouched, covering the well for safety while focusing on urgent renovations inside the house. But recently, they returned to it — and the restoration of the centuries-old well began. With the help of a friend, they built a massive iron grate, sealed it with bricks, and even planned to install lighting and a pump to revive its function.

“It’s terrifying to think it was right there all along without us knowing,” Olivia explained. “Now at least it’s safe — and it looks incredible, just as it might have centuries ago.”
Their viral TikTok video sparked a wave of fascination, with many viewers urging them to explore the well further. Some suggested it could still contain hidden relics, noting that centuries-old wells were often used to conceal valuables, weapons, or family heirlooms.
