Kate, Princess of Wales, was supposed to be talking business. Instead, she ended up confirming exactly what royal watchers had been whispering about for months.
During her visit to two Welsh enterprises, the future Queen appeared relaxed, smiling as she met staff and explored their handcrafted products. At the Hiut Denim factory in Cardigan, however, something shifted the mood. A cocker spaniel named Barney stole her attention — and the conversation quickly became personal.

Hiut’s CEO, Johann von Löpper, later revealed that Kate spent a surprisingly long time chatting with his fiancée about their dog. She mentioned she also has cocker spaniels at home and even noted that one of hers is the same age as theirs. “It was a lovely moment that really helped break the ice,” he shared.
But then came the line that changed everything.

In a casual tone, Kate confirmed there is a new little member in their household. “We have a little one at home, only eight months old,” she said — a sentence that instantly validated months of speculation.
The Wales family’s connection to animals is no secret. Back in 2020, they received a cocker spaniel named Orla as a gift from Kate’s brother, James Middleton. Last year, five-year-old Orla welcomed a litter, and ever since, royal followers have been quietly wondering whether one of those newcomers might stay within the family.

In June 2025, a birthday photo released for Prince William seemed to subtly confirm the change. Now, Kate’s own words have sealed it.
What looked like a routine factory visit turned into something much more revealing — a rare, unscripted moment that gave the public a glimpse behind palace walls.
