Cillian Murphy has one of Hollywood’s most recognizable faces, from his piercing blue eyes to his sharply defined features. So when his youngest son, Aran Murphy, began stepping into the spotlight, comparisons with his Oscar-winning father were inevitable. But not everyone sees the resemblance.
Cillian and visual artist Yvonne McGuinness have been married since 2004 and share two sons, Malachy, born in 2005, and Aran, born in 2007. Despite their father’s enormous fame, both boys were raised largely away from Hollywood, with Cillian deliberately trying to give them a normal childhood.
Now Aran is beginning to attract attention for a very different reason. The young actor has landed his first major feature role in “Klara and the Sun,” appearing alongside Jenna Ortega, Amy Adams, Natasha Lyonne and Steve Buscemi. The project marks a significant step toward following his famous father into acting.
But once new images of Aran circulated, his career wasn’t the only thing people discussed. Claims that he looked like a “carbon copy” of Cillian triggered surprisingly divided reactions, with many insisting the father and son actually look very different.
“You would never pass him in the street and go ‘omg that is Cillian Murphy’s son,'” one person argued. Another said there were “very few similarities” between them. Others picked apart everything from Aran’s eyes and nose to his fuller face and lack of his father’s famous cheekbones.

Some reactions became even more brutal. “Not nearly as beautiful as the original,” one commenter wrote, while another argued that Aran resembles his mother far more than Cillian. Others were more measured, pointing out that he naturally appears to have inherited features from both parents.
Whatever people see when comparing their photos, Aran is no longer simply the rarely seen son standing beside an Oscar winner. With his first major film role putting him in front of a much bigger audience, the 18-year-old is beginning to build a name — and face — of his own.
